twelve principles of animation
12 Animation Principles
the most important parts of animation are the 12 principles of animation. Today i will be talking about how they appear in assassins creed black flag
Staging
The book describes " staging is the principle of presenting any idea so that it is completely and unmistakably clear "(Cooper pg 29). This quote is easy to see in black flag because many cut scenes the player and the target would be alone in a white room making it so the player can focus on just the characters and what they do/say
Anticipation
The book describes anticipation as " used to prepare the viewer for an action "(Cooper pg 30). This definition is very easy to see in assassins creed due to the multiple shows they have for jumping and climbing walls. One of the best examples is when you are climbing a wall the character will reach out his hand to where he is going to go next before you tel him to climb.
Follow Through and Overlapping actions
The Book talks about how important overlapping and follow through of the characters animation is. The main thing it talks about is "A common mistake most junior animators make is to have all elements of a character start or arrive at the same time "(Cooper pg 32). the best example of how this is best done in assassins creed is with the characters cloak and hood a lot of the time the hood and cloak will move different from the character itself
Slow in and slow out
The way the book describe slow in and out is " the visual result of acceleration and deceleration on moving elements"( Cooper pg 33). The best example of this in assassins creed is when you jump of something high like a tower or cliff. at the beginning of the jump the character will move slowly and do a flip before turning into the correct position and falling faster near the end of the fall.
Secondary actions
the book describes this as "secondary actions are used to complement and emphasize the primary action "( Cooper pg 36). There are many examples of secondary actions is assassins creed black flag but the best one would have to be after you make an assassination you character will usually shake or clean of his blades before moving his hands to put the hidden blades away.
